The Arizona Cardinals, in a very sneaky manner, have established great depth at the running back position. With James Conner returning from injury and entering his sixth season with the club, followed by the additions of Tyler Allgeier and Jeremiyah Love, this unit could be a huge difference-maker in the team’s performance in 2026.
The big splash was drafting Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love with the No. 3 overall pick, the highest draft pick used on a running back since 2018 when the New York Giants selected Saquon Barkley at No. 2 overall. Love, coming off a season where he received Heisman votes.
The Tyler Allgeier signing often goes under the radar, considering everyone is raving over the Love selection. But the truth is, Allgeier’s role could be one of the biggest of his career, as he enters a very similar scheme that he came over from with the Atlanta Falcons.
Allgeier, who signed a two-year, $12.25 million contract, was the backup to another top ten running back selection in Bijan Robinson.
Robinson, a shifty and incredibly explosive option, usually got the Falcons’ offense to within the five-yard line. But despite the abilities he put on display to get within that range, he was often removed in favor of Allgeier.

Tyler Allgeier isn’t the fastest or most explosive, but he does produce the power needed to get into the end zone on short yardage. This is going to be the same role for him in Arizona, with Love seeing the bulk of the action at running back, and Allgeier or James Conner capping off the drive.
